Fujitsu Laboratories of America Licenses Mentor Graphics 10 Gigabit Ethernet MAC Solution

WILSONVILLE, Ore.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—May 19, 2004— Mentor Graphics Corp. (Nasdaq:MENT) today announced the licensing of its A-XGMAC(TM) 10 Gigabit Ethernet Media Access Controller (MAC) by Fujitsu Laboratories of America, Inc. (FLA). Mentor Graphics is a leading provider of communications intellectual property (IP), and its Ethernet MAC products are the building blocks for system-on-chip (SoC) designs used in today's highly integrated communications and networking systems. 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology enables the high data-transfer rates, up to 10Gbps, required for bandwidth-intensive broadband allocations.

"We are at the forefront of development and investment in communications and networking products leveraging the bandwidth capabilities of 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology," said Akira Hattori, vice president of Advanced Interconnect Technology of Fujitsu Laboratories of America. "We selected Mentor Graphics as our 10 Gigabit Ethernet MAC provider because of its history and reputation for delivering proven, reusable IP solutions and its commitment to industry standards and certification."

Recently, Fujitsu Microelectronics America and Fujitsu Laboratories of America announced the industry's first single-chip 10Gbps Ethernet Switch IC, which enables designers to develop compact and cost-effective switches that deliver maximum performance. The Mentor Graphics(R) 10Gbps Ethernet MAC enables enhanced functionality for this switch IC, performing quality packet transmission and reception. The Ethernet MAC supports the IEEE 802.3ae standard and includes test benches to ensure correct operation when run on different simulator software and platforms for quality assurance.

"Fujitsu Laboratories of America has adopted Mentor Graphics cores to take advantage of our proven track record of successful silicon implementations," said Michael Kaskowitz, general manager, Intellectual Property Division, Mentor Graphics. "Customers leverage our extensive knowledge of the standard and our compliance experience to reduce their risk of failure. We will continue to lead the development of standards-based communication IP cores, with 10Gbps Ethernet as a critical focus."

The Mentor Graphics A-XGMAC 10 Gigabit Ethernet MAC Soft Core:

The major product features include:

-- Programmable Drop Rx Frame Filter

-- Support for IEEE 802.3ae specification and IEEE 802.3x full duplex full control

-- Per-frame and default programmable padding and FCS insertion

-- Support for externally generated proprietary control frames

-- Synchronous or asynchronous configuration register access

-- Separate MAC control sub-layer hierarchy for ease and removal

-- Packet-aware real-time sub-module enabling and disabling

-- Frame reception relaxation, programmable for non-compliant PHYs

-- Functional test bench with documentation of the A-XGMAC's conformance to appropriate IEEE PICS

-- Expanded statistics vectors for certain RMON and Etherstats applications

All Mentor Graphics IP cores are delivered to the highest quality standards. The A-XGMAC 10Gbps Ethernet MAC is available in Verilog source code, with full testbench and documentation. For more information on Mentor Graphics IP cores, please visit: http://www.mentor.com/inventra.
